About ExifMop
ExifMop is a batch cleaner for the hidden data in photos. It shows what each JPEG, PNG, WebP or HEIC carries — where it was taken, when, with what, and edited in what — scores it, and removes it from JPEG, PNG and WebP without touching the picture itself.
It was built for the moment before sharing: the listing photos for a flat, the pictures of a bike for sale, a folder of holiday snaps for a forum, a document photographed at home. All of them can carry an address in their metadata. The tool runs in the browser so that checking and cleaning them never means handing them to a server first.
It is built and maintained by Interhive OÜ, a small studio in Tallinn that makes tiny, dependable web tools.
What it does
- Reads JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC
Camera, lens, date and time with time zone, software, serial numbers, owner, orientation, exposure and GPS with altitude, direction and GPS time.
- Scores every photo and the batch
100 minus 50 for a location, 15 for a date, 15 for the device, 10 for software and 10 for a serial number or owner name. Red means a location is embedded.
- Cleans JPEG, PNG and WebP without re-encoding
Metadata segments and chunks are removed at the container level; pixels are copied unchanged. Selective removal rewrites JPEG EXIF tag by tag.
- Verifies and packs the result
Each cleaned file is read back and re-scored. Download photos one by one or all at once as a ZIP built in the browser.
Honest limits
- HEIC is read and scored, not cleaned: browsers cannot re-encode it, and there is no safe lossless strip path for the container yet.
- Selective removal is JPEG-only. For PNG and WebP any selective mode removes the entire EXIF block.
- Metadata is not the only signal. Reflections, street signs and the content of a photo can still reveal where it was taken.
